The Good Life: How to Turn into a Dog

In The Good Life, the good people of Rainy Woods have picked a side between cat and dog, but Naomi is not forced to do the same, as she acquires in the first few hours of the game, the ability to transform into either. This ability, however, has to be unlocked by completing certain story quests.

Here’s how to unlock the dog transformation and what you can do while in this form.

How to Unlock the Dog Transformation in The Good Life

Before you can turn into a dog at will, you will first have to complete one of the main story quests. After unlocking the cat transformation, and discovering the statue of Britannia in the church’s tower, Naomi becomes more determined than ever to discover the mystery of Rainy Woods. As Elizabeth Dickens is the one that told her not to go out at night, and she is the only one that did not turn into a cat or dog, Naomi decides to seek her out.

At this point, you will need to talk with three different people: Michelle O’Reilly, Pauline Atwood, and Elizabeth’s brother William. Head over to the latter’s house, and you will learn how he needs food that is gilded, radiant, and circular. Head over to the Cafè to learn that what William wants is a Golden Full Moon Fried Egg. Speak with Jan Yi Han outside to get one, get it cooked by the Cafè and bring it to William as quickly as possible. If you waste too much time getting it to him, it will get cold and you will have to cook one again.

Bringing William the Golden Full Moon Fried Egg will make him talk nonsense again. Naomi will get so bored that she will turn into a dog for the first time, effectively unlocking the transformation for good.

How to Turn into a Dog

Once you have unlocked the transformation, you can turn into a dog at will by pressing the left direction on your directional pad. The dog form is a little different from the cat form, as it can run faster, but not jump as high. This form is also much better at combat, can scavenge and dig items, and it can detect scents in camera mode (accessed by holding the ZL button) to track animals and other characters. In dog form, Naomi can also mark locations, which is something useful in certain quests.
