The more popular a game is, the more mods you can find. Therefore, you can imagine how many mods are out there for Tomb Raider games. Despite the fact that the last Tomb Raider installment was released in 2018, Lara Croft doesn’t stop pulling the attention of the gaming community.
We have scoured the world of Tomb Raider mods for the last three games (starting with the 2013 reboot) to help you out on your quest for options that improve on the visuals, bring new outfits for Lara, or even allow you to play as totally different characters. Here’s our top 5 list of Tomb Raider mods that you must try.
Apex Photorealistic Reshade
The visuals in Shadow of the Tomb Raider are already quite spectacular, but why not try to push them further? That was the idea behind the creation of this preset that makes everything in the game look cleaner, sharper, and more detailed.
If you want a more life-like experience on your next playthrough, this mod is the way to go. It looks so good you’ll have the urge to take screenshot after screenshot.
Aloy TR2013
The fun thing about mods is that they can bring us the crossovers we didn’t even know we wanted. If you’ve ever thought about what Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn would do in Lara’s shoes, now you can see for yourself with this Tomb Raider 2013 mod.
For those who want to keep playing as Aloy throughout the whole game, be aware that you will need the official Aviatrix DLC outfit first and make sure to equip it at the first fire camp when you get the outfit change option.
Lara Croft Classic Outfit
With the 2013 reboot of the series, we saw a more realistic portrayal of Lara that doesn’t focus so much on objectifying her as a sex symbol anymore. One of the most noticeable aspects of that change was the new outfits. Lara still looks super hot—no doubt about that—but so many mods out there allow you to go back to her classic, more revealing look.
While some mods stray far into the NSFW territory, we found a Rise of the Tomb Raider one that keeps everything classy and looks great. Now you just have to convince yourself that it makes perfect sense for Lara to walk around Siberia in a tank top.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider Outfit Mod
Character customization is one of our favorite aspects of gaming in general, but games like Tomb Raider sometimes don’t offer that much in that regard. If the base game fails your expectations, you can always turn to mods.
This mod created by user EzioMaverick aims to improve or expand on the existing Shadow of the Tomb Raider outfits and does so beautifully. Just one look at mod outfit screenshots makes you understand why we had to include this mod on our list.
Angelina Jolie
Video games don’t always translate very well into movies, and the critics shredded both Tomb Raider adaptations starring Angelina Jolie. Regardless, some of us still think that she was the perfect cast for that role.
If Angelina is the real-life Lara Croft for you as well, you will be glad to try this Rise of the Tomb Raider mod that looks incredibly realistic. One of the best parts of this mod is the Siberian outfit from the movie which works great in the setting of this particular installment.
And that’s our selection of the must-try Tomb Raider mods. Let us know what you think or if you find some other interesting additions to our list. In case you’re looking for more mods for your other games, check out our lists of the best Horizon Zero Dawn, Sims 4, or Baldur’s Gate 3 mods as well.
