Valheim is a survival adventure through the mythical lands of Valheim, the realm of fallen warriors. You can play solo or in multiplayer, and even on public servers with random players. Chests for storing items are open to all, but sometimes you want to keep some stuff to yourself, and that’s where Personal Chests come in.
In this guide, you will learn how to craft a Personal Chest in Valheim.
How to craft a Personal Chest in Valheim
Personal Chests are six-slotted chests that can only be accessed by the player who crafted them. That makes them a great tool for keeping valuable items away from nosy players on a multiplayer server.
Only the player who crafted the Personal Chest can instantly remove it with a Hammer. If another player tries, they will fail. Other players can destroy the Personal Chest by attacking it with an axe, but due to its extremely high durability, it will take a very long time to do so.

The crafting recipe for Personal Chests automatically unlocks upon picking up your first piece of smelted Iron. To craft a Personal Chest, you will need the following items:
- Fine Wood x 10
- Iron x 8
Fine Wood is obtained from chopping down Birch and Oak trees, which can be found in the Meadows or Plains. The Plains in particular have lots of Birch trees to go around, but just be careful of the strong enemies that spawn there. You’ll need at least a Bronze Axe to cut down these trees.
Iron is created by smelting Scrap Iron, which can be found by digging up the muddy scrap piles found within Sunken Crypts. Sunken Crypts are scattered throughout the Swamps. Oozers also have a chance to drop Scrap Iron.
