Offensive techniques are generally what make fighting games truly exciting, and this is the same for Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, one of the most complex fighting games available on the market.
A wealth of offensive techniques, however, isn’t the only thing that makes a fighting game good, as defensive techniques are just as important to create a balanced experience.
In this regard, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax doesn’t disappoint either. Here’s everything you need to know about the Evasive Actions in the game.
What Are Evasive Actions in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax features unique defensive techniques that can also use offensively called Evasive Actions that allow players to defend against opponents and even mix them up. These are ground dodges, hops, and Aerial Turns.
Ground dodges are the most basic Evasive Action in the game. Performed by pressing the Y and X buttons on both Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck, they allow your character to evade an opponent’s attack and move quickly across the screen. Fireballs cannot be dodged with them, however, so you will have to be careful when using them against opponents that rely heavily on zoning with them.
Hops, which are performed by pressing down and the Y and X buttons, allow you to jump while staying closer to the opponent, thus they are perfect to surprise opponents who are good at controlling space. Using this technique over and over, however, will start making you predictable, so use it sparingly.
The final Evasive Action in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is the Aerial Turn. Performed by pressing the Y and X buttons while in the air, they allow you to turn around while jumping, making them perfect for setting-up cross-ups. By mixing them with regular jumps, you can use Aerial Turns to mix up the opponent who will then have to start guessing from where you will attack.
