Chocobo GP, the long-awaited sequel to the original 1999 Chocobo Racing game back on the Playstation 1, is finally here on Nintendo Switch! If you’ve gone to the Nintendo eShop to check out the game, you may have noticed that there are two versions of the game: Lite and Premium. Today, we’ll show you the differences between the two versions in our Chocobo GP guide!
What are the Differences Between Chocobo GP Lite and Chocobo GP Premium?
Let’s start out with the Lite version of Chocobo GP first. The Lite version is absolutely free to play, so anyone interested in the game should download the Lite version to try it out. Think of the Lite version as a demo, and as such, you don’t have full access to all the game modes.
For single-player modes, the Lite version lets you play the Prologue chapter, which serves as a short tutorial for the game. The Time Attack, Series Races, and Custom Race modes are all locked in the Lite version. You’re also limited to three characters.
For multiplayer, the Lite version allows you to play the Chocobo GP mode, which has you race against seven other random players in an online tournament. You cannot play with friends online, but you can play locally, with a catch—the Lite version cannot create lobbies, only join them. You’ll need a person that owns the Premium version to create a lobby.

Additionally, you cannot purchase the Prize Pass in the Lite version, which is essentially a Battle/Season Pass similar to other mobile games.
Now, for the Premium version of Chocobo GP, which costs 49.99 USD. The Premium version of the game contains everything that the Lite version does not. You can play online with your friends, create local lobbies to play with your friends in person, and you have access to all the single-player modes. This also means you can unlock all the characters! The Prize Pass becomes purchasable with the premium in-game currency, Mythril.
Those are all the differences in between the Lite and Premium versions of Chocobo GP. If you have any other questions, let us know in the comments below!
