The purchase of Schalke 04’s LEC slot made esports history when BDS spent $31.54 million on the acquisition. The team’s head of strategy, Alexandre Lopez, told the media how thrilling it was for BDS to participate in the competition. saying:
“This really is the next step for BDS and we hope to feature among the best in League of Legends. We are grateful towards Riot Games and FC Shalke 04 for placing their trust in our team, and we hope to continue FC Shalke 04’s work in developing esports as a discipline of it own.”
So now Team BDS is making a significant mark on the esports community, many are wondering who exactly this team is. They were founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 2018, and began their journey in the LFL before gaining a space in the LEC. The name ‘BDS’ actually comes from the team’s CEO and founder Patrice Bailo de Spoelberch, taking the team initials from his surname.
