The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Yellow screen indicator explained

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is an asymmetrical competitive multiplayer game where four Victims go up against three players assuming the role of the Slaughters Family, which includes the iconic Leatherface. As such, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre borrows heavily from games like Dead by Daylight, right down to certain mechanics.

One such mechanic is the ability for victims to detect when a Family member is nearby. In Dead by Daylight, the game clued you in on this by playing a heartbeat sound, with the heart beating faster the closer the killer was to you.

In The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, you’ll know when a Family member is close when you see a yellow, reddish haze appear around the border of your screen. The closer the Family is to you, the more prominent the border will get, to the point where it starts to obfuscate the edges of your screen, making it harder to see your surroundings.

The point of this mechanic is to not only alert Victim players that they are close to danger, but also to simulate tension. When the yellow indicator starts to cover up large portions of the screen, it’s supposed to induce panic and fear, mimicking the inability to immediately take in all your surroundings.

There are other, miscellaneous yellow indicators in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre as well, though they’re relatively straightforward. Depending on whether you are a Victim or Family, objects and friendly players around you may be highlighted in yellow. Keep an eye out for some clues on your surroundings.
