Hidetaka Miyazaki’s souls series offers some of the most detailed side characters linked with the game’s story with a butterfly effect—that is, your actions can shape the future of the character and their role in the story. The most recent entry in the soulsbourne games, Elden Ring, is no exception to this.

Among many NPCs, we have an NPC called Ranni the Witch who plays a major role in the game’s story. Players can trigger her questline in the early game. And if things are done correctly, completing Ranni’s questline will unlock a secret ending to Elden Ring—which to us, was the best ending for the game.
At the near end of Ranni the Witch’s questline, you have to somewhat save Ranni at the Cathedral of Manus Celes. In this guide, we share details on what happens if you save Ranni the Witch in Elden Ring.
What Happens if You Save Ranni the Witch in Elden Ring
Once you obtain the Dark Moon Ring after defeating Astel and ascended to the Moonlight Altar in Liurnia, the next thing you have to do is go and interact with Ranni in Catherdral of Manus Celes.

Interacting with Ranni triggers a cutscene where you put the Dark Moon Ring on her finger, making the bleak body disappear as she re-appears in her Witch form.
Talk to Ranni and after a series of dialogues, she will head “to the night sky.” Well, this is what she says.
This will mark the end of this “saving Ranni” portion of her quest and you will find loot at her location, which, when interacted with, turns out to be the iconic and one of our favorite weapons, the Moonlight Greatsword.
Also, as we mentioned earlier, saving her will allow you to summon her in the final boss battle, triggering a secret ending about which we won’t be talking due to spoiler reasons.
Elden Ring is a roleplaying game currently available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, and PC platforms.
