What is the Legend Plate in Pokemon Legends: Arceus? – Answered

It was about time that the Pokemon franchise put some respect on Arceus’ name. It’s the God of the Pokemon world, for crying out loud! Even Eternatus from Pokemon Sword and Shield had a form whose base stat total exceeded one thousand stat points. How are you going to let a normal Legendary be more powerful than the sole God of the Pokemon universe?

Well, with that angry rant aside, let’s get to the Legend Plate and what it does for Arceus in Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

What is the Legend Plate in Pokemon Legends: Arceus?

In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, there exists an Arceus-exclusive item called the Legend Plate. This is the item that Arceus holds during the final battle of the game, and which you will receive after beating it; this is the item that truly justifies Arceus being called God.

The Legend Plate, when held by Arceus, keeps its typing as the default Normal type. In exchange, when Arceus uses its signature move Judgment, the move always changes into a type that is super-effective against its opponent.

Let’s say Arceus is holding the Legend Plate and is fighting a Gyarados. When it fires off Judgment, it will change its type to Electric to make sure Gyarados gets hit by a move that it is 4x weak to.

Additionally, the Legend Plate also helps Arceus from a defensive standpoint. This item lets Arceus change its typing based on the Pokemon it is currently fighting to make sure it will possess resistances against its opponent.

For example, if Arceus holding the Legend Plate is facing off against Rhyperior, a Rock / Ground type, it will change Arceus’ typing to something like Grass, since it resists Ground moves, or Fighting, since it resists Rock moves. The exact type it changes into would depend on which type would give Arceus the most resistances against the opponent’s typing.

We don’t have to explain how broken this makes Arceus. It is more than likely that the Legend Plate and its mechanics will be limited to Pokemon Legends: Arceus and won’t move over to future mainline games, to keep the balance of the game intact.

The Legend Plate possesses an inscription engraved on it, which reads:

“From all creations, over all creations, does the Original One watch over all.”
