What is the Storm on Top of the Mountain in Pokemon Legends: Arceus? – Answered

Many players diving into Pokemon Legends: Arceus for the first time are wondering what the massive, swirling storm on top of Mount Coronet is. Without spoiling too much about the plot, let’s take a look at what we know about the spacetime rift!

What is the Spacetime Rift?

Mt. Coronet’s mysterious storm—properly termed the spacetime rift—is pretty integral to the plot even from the beginning of the game. The player character actually arrives in Hisui by falling out of the rift after being warped across time and space from their home in Sinnoh.

Professor Laventon and other members of the Galaxy Team explain that the rift is a relatively new phenomenon, albeit one that has occurred before in the distant past. Many strange happenings seem to be brought about by it, from strange changes in powerful local Pokemon to more erratic occurrences known as spacetime distortions, which bring foreign Pokemon to Hisui from distant times and places.

In fact, since local Pokemon are fairly limited in Hisui, spacetime distortions are nearly the only way to get many classic Pokemon that have different Hisuian counterparts like Weavile and Scizor. They also spawn a plethora of rare items, some of which cannot typically be obtained from normal gameplay.

What Else Do We Know About the Rift?

The cause behind Mt. Coronet’s spacetime rift is something explained in depth in the later stages of the game, so it’s probably best to play through Legends: Arceus yourself unless you want to spoil the plot.

The important points are that the player character travels to Hisui through the rift, the rift causes strange changes in local Pokemon, and that the spacetime distortions caused by the rift are responsible for strange foreign Pokemon showing up throughout the game. Anything beyond that would be a spoiler!
