Diamonds are the rarest ore in the overworld to mine, and players clamor to get their hands on some. In earlier versions of Minecraft, diamonds use to generate in much shallower heights, where Y=11 used to be the ideal level to mine for diamonds, and Y=0 was the level at which you hit Bedrock.

What Level is Bedrock in Minecraft 1.18?
In Minecraft Bedrock 1.18, diamond ores begin generating at Y=14 and continue till Y=-64. Diamond ores start becoming more common as the height level lowers. Furthermore, diamond ores are hardly ever exposed to air at extreme depths.
What this means is that all levels below Y=-64 is when the bedrock layers start generating. You will mostly be wanting to look for diamond ore and not run into bedrock, so the ideal levels to mine diamond ore is between Y=-58 and Y=-64.
Mining diamond ore is going to take longer due to the vein generation change and the fact that it is more common in the form of a Deepslate Ore. This change is the new Diamond Ore Distribution in Minecraft 1.18, which honestly, is pretty cool since players get to reach depths they have never been able to reach before!
