Seven, eight badges in, and still the building is locked. Even after defeating the Elite Four and becoming Champion, you are prohibited from entering the now mysterious GWS building. What could be in there? What is its purpose? When does it open? Read on to have all your questions answered.

When Does the GWS Open in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl?

We’ll give you the straight answer: the GWS is not currently functional in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. This means that as of now, there is no way to unlock the GWS in the Pokemon BDSP games.

What is the GWS in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl?

Since the GWS is in the same location that the GTS—the Global Trade Station—was in the original Generation 4 games, we can presume it will be used for the same basic purpose: trading Pokemon.

The original GTS’ main feature was depositing a Pokemon in their system while requesting a specific one in return. If there was another trainer willing to exchange the desired Pokemon, the trade would be made.

Wonder Trading, on the other hand, are completely randomized trades, and since the building in Jubilife City is now called the Global ‘Wonder’ Station, we have enough reason to believe that the main function of this building is going to be Wonder Trading.

So then why is the GWS in the game if we can’t access it? Well, ILCA and The Pokemon Company are probably planning to add the functioning GWS building in a future update/DLC, just like many other “missing features” in the game.

So keep your eyes and ears open, as we are sure to cover it as it drops!
