Burmy will change its form and typing based on the environment of the last battle it was in. Burmy will adopt the Plant Cloak, its default form (Grass/Bug), when fighting outdoors/in tall grass, the Sandy Cloak (Bug/Ground) when fighting in caves or snowstorms, or the Trash Cloak (Bug/Steel) when fighting in a building.

How to Get Burmy in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Before you can go around trying to catch yourself a Burmy, you need to be able to access and buy Honey.

Once you progress through the game enough to reach Floarama Town, head towards the Floarama Meadow. Help out the man in Floarama Meadow to unlock the ability to buy Honey from him. Honey is fairly cheap, costing only 100 Poke Dollars.

If you haven’t guessed already, Burmy is available only through Honey Tree encounters. Below, we will elaborate on the most optimal way to encounter a Burmy in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl:

  1. Buy a lot of quantities of Honey.
  2. Start slathering all of the Honey Trees you have encountered so far.
  3. It would be ideal if you can use the TM Fly to fly between and slather all 21 Honey Trees in the Sinnoh Region.
  4. Wait for 6 hours.
  5. Fly between each slathered Honey Tree to get into Pokemon encounters.

If you end up slathering 21 Honey Trees and check in on all 21 of them in a row after 6 hours, you are mostly guaranteed to encounter a Burmy, as the odds for coming across one ranges from 11-16% depending on the tree you check (regular or Munchlax Tree).
