With the Caves and Cliffs Part 2 Update that rolled out recently, comes quite the few gameplay changes in Minecraft, including its very new ore generation process, with new ways to mine diamonds.

What is the Best Way to Mine Diamonds in Minecraft Bedrock?

First off, it would be imperative to note that the 1.8 update decreases the chances that an ore will appear in a block that is currently exposed to the air. This means that Minecraft players should not be expecting to see a lot of diamonds while they are exploring the caves which appear in the lower Y-levels. Players will indeed need to take a more proactive approach with regards to finding these valuable minerals, with stripmining being the most effective strategy.

The best place to mine diamonds in Minecraft 1.18 is down near where bedrock spawns, but there is some question as to exactly how close players should be getting. Since diamonds will be far more common the farther down players go, one may decide to branch mine all the way down into the Y -60 to Y -64 area to find the highest concentration of diamond deposits. The problem that comes up with that method is that lava pools will be much more common at these depths, which will interrupt branches of a mine far more often.

Miners that want to be as time-efficient as possible should most likely be looking to create their branch mines at Y -53. This will ascertain the possibility of branches not being interrupted as often by lava, increasing the speed and coverage of the mining operation through the allowance for longer contiguous branches.

Even though the diamond concentration won’t be as high, players will also not have to constantly double-back to create new branches when old ones are cut off by the pesky pools of lava. However, while mining for diamonds down at these unforeseen depths, players’ branches may even then run into some of the new cave biomes.
