Since we’ve known for a while that Hogwarts Legacy will be a role-playing title with detailed character customization and different possible endings, it’s only natural to wonder about the inclusion of another standard RPG element—romance.

Will there be romance in Hogwarts Legacy? Let’s explore what we know so far.

Will Hogwarts Legacy Have Romance?

We have seen some new updates about Hogwarts Legacy‘s in-game features in the last few days, as the pre-release hype moves into its final stretch before the game comes out on Feb. 10. For example, fans finally got the confirmation that swimming will be possible (still no news on diving, though).

Unfortunately, there is no official confirmation by developers on whether there will be romance in Hogwarts Legacy yet. Unless developers suddenly decide to drop some more info on this matter in the next two weeks, we will have to wait until we get our hands on the game to confirm if your Hogwarts Legacy character will be able to have a romantic interest or not.

Is Romance in Hogwarts Legacy Even Possible?

Before the game gets released officially, we can only speculate on the possibility of romancing other characters in Hogwarts Legacy. Here are a few pros and cons of how it might work.

Pros of Romance in Hogwarts Legacy

You will play as a 5th-year transfer student, which should make your in-game character 15 or 16 years old. While still quite young, teenagers usually start expressing romantic interest in others around that age, which makes romance in Hogwarts Legacy technically possible.

We also know that players will get to use the Unforgivable Curses and become proper villains if they want, so it seems that the developers believe these teenagers can handle more than we think.

Cons of Romance in Hogwarts Legacy

If Hogwarts Legacy does include romance, you shouldn’t expect too much of it—most interactions would probably be on the level of a platonic high-school crush or a budding young love, similar to what we get to see between the characters in the Harry Potter series.

Also, keep in mind that the game is set in the Victorian era, which was rather restrictive on displays of affection and romantic relationships in general. While this applied to the world of Muggles, some of those cultural values likely spilled over into the wizarding community too.

Regardless, we think that adding options like asking your love interest to a school dance or sharing a butterbeer in Hogsmeade would be great for character development and give us an even richer in-game world.

Hogwarts Legacy releases on Feb. 10, 2023, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Microsoft Windows, and on April 4 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Check out our dedicated section for more guides and updates as they arrive!
